Job Description

MediaNama is hiring journalists to join our team and report on technology policy. This is a specialized field, so please read the details carefully.

Key Responsibilities

Tracking & Reporting:
- Current news and developments in technology policy and tech law in India.
- Key international developments (UN, EU, and global Internet policy forums).
- Policy-related updates from Parliament, Supreme Court, and High Courts in India.
Analysis:
- Interpret judgments, data, regulatory filings, and other information concisely.
Event Coverage & Reporting:
- Prepare questions, identify speakers, live-tweet, and report on MediaNama events.
- Write reports based on discussions from MediaNama events.
- May be required to host or moderate events.

Requirements

Experience & Qualifications

2-4 years of experience in legal or policy reporting, preferably in technology policy.
Ability to analyze legal, policy, and financial documents is preferred.
Prior experience working in digital journalism is a plus.
Candidates with limited experience but strong passion and writing skills may also apply.

Skills & Interests

Strong editorial judgment and writing ability.
Excellent time management and ability to deliver high-quality news and features.
Interest in policies affecting Internet access, commerce, telecom, digital payments, e-governance, social media, etc.
Familiarity with WordPress, HTML, Google Analytics, and SEO basics is an advantage.
Comfort with Slack, WhatsApp, and phone-based communication.
Strong command of the English language.

Technical & Cultural Fit

Must have own laptop with a functional webcam, audio setup, and reliable Internet connection (with backup).
Be geeky about technology policy and passionate about the open Internet.
Ability to adapt to ambiguity in the dynamic news industry.
Should be a team player, eager to contribute and engage in meaningful discussions.
