About the Role: Director, EDDS Testing & Monitoring

The Enterprise Digital & Data Solutions (EDDS) Control Management Testing & Monitoring team, within the Risk ID, Assessment, Testing, and Reporting pillar, focuses on identifying, assessing, mitigating, and reporting operational risks within business processes. The goal is to ensure regulatory compliance, adherence to Amex policies, and enhanced business resilience.

As the Director of Testing & Monitoring, you will lead a team of high-performing professionals, collaborating across multiple business units, functions, and geographies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess risks throughout business processes and systems.
  • Facilitate risk assessments and testing programs to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards (e.g., PRSA reviews, updated assessment criteria).
  • Lead control monitoring and proactively communicate operational risk trends to senior management.
  • Identify high-risk areas requiring intervention through independent quality assurance and vertical process testing.
  • Champion risk management practices across the business.
  • Develop Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) for continuous monitoring.
  • Maintain and update risk registers and risk profiles.
  • Share insights, best practices, and risk-related themes across the enterprise.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in Operational Risk Management (preferably within Risk/Internal Audit functions of a Global Systemically Important Bank (G-SIB)).
  • Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders.
  • Expertise in process governance with a track record of aligning decisions with policies, regulatory frameworks, and operational standards.
  • Financial services industry experience is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively.
  • Proven experience in managing large, geographically dispersed teams with diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related field (MBA/MSc or relevant certifications preferred).
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas:
    • Identifying operational risks throughout business processes and systems.
    • Facilitating risk assessments and testing programs to ensure compliance.
    • Enhancing risk assessments and associated methodologies.
    • Leading independent control monitoring and identifying control improvements.
    • Conducting independent quality assurance and process testing in high-risk areas.
    • Compiling thematic risk reporting to provide actionable insights on emerging risks.
