Role Overview

The Enterprise Digital & Data Solutions (EDDS) Control Management Testing & Monitoring Team plays a critical role in identifying, assessing, mitigating, and reporting Operational Risks within EDDS business processes. The team ensures adherence to regulatory standards, Amex policies, and enhances business resilience through clear risk methodologies.

We are looking for a Director, EDDS Testing & Monitoring to lead a diverse, high-performing team responsible for embedding control management into our daily operations. This role requires extensive collaboration with multiple stakeholders across business units, functional areas, and global locations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Risk Identification & Assessment:
    • Identify risks across business processes and systems in collaboration with business process owners.
    • Facilitate risk assessments, testing, and QA programs to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Control Monitoring & Compliance:
    • Oversee control monitoring and proactively communicate key Operational Risk (OR) trends to senior management.
    • Conduct independent quality assurance and process testing.
    • Develop key risk indicators (KRIs) and maintain updated risk registers.
  • Leadership & Strategy:
    • Drive risk management best practices within the business.
    • Identify high-risk areas and implement mitigation strategies.
    • Lead the creation of thematic risk reports to provide actionable insights.
    • Establish a risk governance framework, ensuring all methodologies align with regulatory requirements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Work closely with senior executives, business leaders, and cross-functional teams.
    • Act as a key leader in sharing risk insights and best practices across the enterprise.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in Operational Risk Management, Risk & Internal Audit, or similar roles within financial services, preferably at a Global Systemically Important Bank (G-SIB).
  • Strong experience in process governance and risk methodologies.
  • Proven ability to interact with senior leadership and obtain buy-in for risk management initiatives.
  • Exceptional project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess risks, trends, and potential impact.
  • Experience managing large, globally distributed teams with diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related field; advanced degrees (MBA, MSc) or certifications (e.g., FRM, PRM, CIA) are a plus.
  • Expertise in at least one of the following areas:
    • Operational risk identification across business processes and systems.
    • Risk assessment methodologies and control enhancement strategies.
    • Independent control monitoring and implementation of control improvements.
    • Thematic risk reporting and analysis of emerging risk trends.
    • Process testing and quality assurance to ensure compliance.
