Salary: ₹12,000 - ₹30,000 per month
Retail pharmacists dispense medications in retail outlets like supermarkets or drug stores. Unlike hospital pharmacists, retail pharmacists spend more time interacting with patients. They work full-time, and shifts vary based on store hours, including night and weekend duties.
With the aging baby boomer population needing more medications, the demand for retail pharmacists is expected to rise, though the growth of mail-order and online pharmacies may affect job prospects.
Preparing and Dispensing Medications:
Verify prescription accuracy and availability of medication.
Dispense medications by counting pills or measuring liquids.
Package medications, print instructions, and provide them to customers or file for later pickup.
Customer Service:
Advise customers on medication usage, interactions, and side effects.
Recommend over-the-counter solutions based on symptoms.
Encourage preventative healthcare actions like blood pressure checks and flu shots.
Handling Insurance:
Assist patients with insurance queries and determine medication coverage.
Offer alternative solutions if necessary.
Monitoring Inventory:
Track and manage the pharmacy’s medication and healthcare supply stock.
Place orders for additional stock and restock shelves as needed.
