Role Overview

This role is part of the AXP Consolidation & Close Governance Team, responsible for financial consolidation, governance, and accurate financial reporting for American Express and its subsidiaries. The team ensures compliance with US regulatory bodies such as SEC, FRB, and Tax Departments while driving key financial close and business initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Consolidation & Governance:

  • Lead AXP’s Financial Close & Governance, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Ensure financial integrity by reviewing and resolving aberrations in financial statements.
  • Work closely with Finance and Technology teams to support AXP Financial Close & Business Initiatives.
  • Maintain high accuracy and productivity standards, ensuring control and compliance.

Collaboration & Process Improvement:

  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to identify and resolve issues impacting close timelines.
  • Identify automation and process enhancement opportunities by working with technology teams.
  • Support external and internal audits, addressing queries and fulfilling quarterly review requirements.

Project & Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Drive process improvements and lead projects with minimal supervision.
  • Influence key stakeholders across Finance & Tech to ensure seamless financial consolidation.
  • Work flexibly to provide 24x7 support during month-end close.

Critical Factors for Success

  • Self-driven leader with the ability to manage processes and projects independently.
  • Strong analytical skills to understand complex financial issues and gain end-to-end process knowledge.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and influence without direct authority.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP is an added advantage.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience:

  • CA / MBA / Post-Graduate with 3-4 years of experience in financial reporting or accounting.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal & written).
  • Prior experience in Financial Accounting / Reporting is preferred.
  • Experience in financial consolidation and an understanding of its complexities.
  • Project management experience is a plus.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS Office Applications.
  • Strong analytical mindset with expertise in financial reporting tools.
  • Experience with platforms like:
    • Oracle, SmartView, Essbase, Tableau, or other ERP/BI platforms.
