Purpose of the Role

This position is part of the AXP Consolidation & Close Governance Team. You will lead the consolidation and governance efforts related to financial close activities, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting for American Express and its subsidiaries to US regulators such as the SEC, FRB, and Tax Department. Your role is critical to supporting financial close and key business initiatives by working closely with multiple stakeholders in Finance and Technology.


Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Close Leadership:

    • Lead AXP's consolidation and governance around the financial close process.
    • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for American Express and its subsidiaries to US regulators.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:

    • Work closely with multiple stakeholders across Finance and Technology to support financial close and key business initiatives.
    • Collaborate to resolve ongoing issues that could impact close timelines.
  • Control, Compliance & Reporting:

    • Maintain high accuracy and productivity standards, ensuring robust controls and compliance.
    • Review financial information to ensure financial integrity and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Technology & Process Improvement:

    • Work with technology teams to identify and implement development or automation opportunities.
    • Support external and internal auditors by addressing queries and meeting quarterly review requirements.

  • Regulatory Understanding:
    • Familiarity with US GAAP is an added advantage for working closely with reporting teams.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: CA, MBA, or Post-Graduate degree.
  • Experience: Minimum 3-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Teamwork: A proactive team player with a can-do attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in financial accounting and reporting.
  • Familiarity with financial consolidation and its complexities.
  • Project management experience is a plus.

Technical Skills/Capabilities

  • Software Proficiency:
    • Strong skills in Excel, presentations, and other MS Office applications.
  • Analytical Tools:
    • Experience with platforms such as Oracle, Smartview, Essbase, Tableau, or similar ERP/BI platforms.
  • Data Analysis:
    • Demonstrated analytical aptitude.
