Job Description – FX Exposure Identification CoE

The FX Exposure Identification CoE is part of the Middle Office Controllership team within the Global Treasury Controllership Organization (GTO). This team is responsible for identifying and analyzing foreign currency exposure arising from transactions and equity translation exposure related to AXP’s foreign subsidiaries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify foreign currency exposure from ledger transactions and support GTO in hedging FX exposures.
  • Prepare month-end FX exposure adequacy reports for multiple markets to ensure adequate FX hedging across AXP.
  • Account and report FX trades to hedge foreign exchange exposure resulting from cross-currency transactions within American Express and its subsidiaries.
  • Provide advisory support on company-wide initiatives related to FX accounting.
  • Support ongoing projects within the team, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Maintain accounting controls to ensure compliance with SOX, Bank Holding Company regulations, and AXP internal guidelines.
  • Lead and participate in Treasury/Business partner-driven initiatives, providing advisories on FX-related matters.
  • Identify and implement process simplifications and automation opportunities.
  • Analyze FX-related P&L drivers and implement controls to mitigate FX impacts.

Required Skills & Capabilities

Technical Skills

  • Strong accounting knowledge, particularly in ASC 830 (FAS 52) Currency Remeasurement & Translation and ASC 815 (FAS 133) FX Hedge Accounting.
  • Expertise in financial analysis, reporting, and FX exposure management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Experience with Oracle Accounting and reporting tools (preferred).

Functional Skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detail.
  • Confidence to challenge the status quo and communicate effectively with leadership, auditors, and regulators.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to connect business drivers to financial outcomes.
  • Ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders without direct control.
  • Quick learner with excellent communication skills and a strong problem-solving mindset.
