Role Overview: Business Continuity Management (BCM) Specialist

How Will You Make an Impact?

Business Continuity Management (BCM) is crucial in today’s environment, ensuring that American Express can respond effectively to disruptions such as natural disasters, infrastructure failures, and pandemics.

The BCM team within the Enterprise Shared Services Group works across the organization to enhance resilience, continuity, and crisis response capabilities. This includes:

  • Planning and preparedness for potential disruptions.
  • Coordinating global and regional crisis responses.
  • Monitoring issues, assessing preparedness, and conducting after-action reviews.

As a BCM Specialist, you will work closely with business units to assess resilience capabilities, monitor compliance, and enhance business continuity plans and risk mitigation strategies.


Key Responsibilities

???? Business Continuity & Risk Oversight

  • Design, implement, and maintain the quality assurance and consequence management framework for BCM compliance.
  • Provide guidance on BCM best practices, regulatory requirements, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external standards (e.g., ISO 22301, FFIEC).

???? Stakeholder Collaboration & Plan Development

  • Partner with Business Units to identify and document key business functions and risk assess dependencies (e.g., third parties, technology, locations).
  • Support business impact analyses (BIAs), business continuity plans, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure BCM documentation remains up to date and meets all compliance requirements.

???? Crisis Readiness & Regulatory Support

  • Assist in regulatory, Internal Audit, and risk oversight reviews.
  • Monitor and assess organizational preparedness for crises.
  • Support capability design and development as required.

Qualifications & Experience

???? Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 1+ years' experience in Risk Management and/or Business Continuity (Risk Oversight experience is a plus).
  • Strong understanding of American Express products, services, and organizational structure.

???? Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Advanced MS Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and derive insights.

???? Leadership & Communication

  • Self-confident with a strong sense of integrity.
  • Ability to challenge existing processes and drive improvements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage with business partners and senior leadership.
