About American Express National Bank (AENB)

American Express National Bank (AENB) represents more than 60% of the company’s revenues through payments, financing, and savings products. The Corporate Function Control Management (CFCM) team within AENB serves as the business unit Control Management function for corporate groups, including:

  • Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C)

  • Colleague Experience Group (CEG)

  • General Counsel’s Organization (GCO)

  • Global Risk & Compliance (GRC)

  • Enterprise Strategy (ES)

  • American Express National Bank Headquarters (AENB HQ)

The Risk Identification, Assessment, Testing, and Reporting team within CFCM is responsible for identifying, assessing, mitigating, and reporting Operational Risks to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and Amex policies.


Role: Analyst, Corporate Function Control Management

This role will focus on embedding control management into daily operations and will involve extensive collaboration with multiple partners across business units, functional areas, and geographies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the identification of operational risks throughout business processes and systems.

  • Assist business units in performing risk assessments (e.g., Process Self Risk Assessments - PRSAs) and ensuring alignment with regulatory standards.

  • Conduct control monitoring and compile key operational risk trends and activities.

  • Identify high-risk areas for intervention and conduct independent quality assurance and vertical process testing.

  • Categorize controls and map them against risks and processes.

  • Maintain risk profiles and an updated risk register.

  • Support risk management practices within the business.

  • Share insights, best practices, and risk themes across the organization.


Required Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in operational risk management, risk & compliance, or internal audit.

  • Understanding of operational risk management lifecycle activities.

  • Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience in process governance aligned with regulatory frameworks and operational standards.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate risk scenarios.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related field. Advanced degrees (MBA, MSc) or certifications are advantageous.

  • Experience in:

    • Risk identification within business processes and systems.

    • Facilitating risk assessments and ensuring adherence to regulatory and internal standards.

    • Independent control monitoring and identifying areas for improvement.

    • Conducting quality assurance and process testing for risk intervention.

    • Compiling risk reports to provide actionable insights on risk levels and emerging trends.
