Eliminate safety lapses within the dialysis unit by enforcing strict adherence to healthcare safety measures and infection control practices among dialysis team members.

Knowledge:
- Practical and theoretical understanding of dialysis procedures (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous therapies, plasma exchange) and associated complications.
- Knowledge of dialysis machines and their components, safety practices inside dialysis rooms, and infection control practices.
- Basic nursing skills under the supervision of a dialysis nurse.
- Knowledge of Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Skills:
- Proficient in performing dialysis-related procedures (hemodialysis through arteriovenous fistula and central vein catheter, managing complications, peritoneal dialysis exchanges, and related procedures).
- Strong communication skills for interacting with dialysis team members, other departments, doctors, and patients.
- Capable of training staff to ensure they reach the next level of privileging.

Overall Responsibilities

Ensure adherence to and compliance with department protocols and policies for smooth functioning.
Maintain duty time compliance and work ethics.
Document patient care and machine function during shift handovers.
Collect data on outcome measures within the dialysis unit (patient statistics, infection control practices, machine performance, safety practices, etc.).
Maintain cleanliness and orderly arrangement of records and equipment.

Patient Care Responsibilities

Provide care to all patients before, during, and after dialysis sessions according to their needs.
Identify and manage clinical problems related to patients receiving dialysis.
Document patient care in dialysis records and patient handbooks.
Ensure adherence to patient safety practices like hand hygiene, central vein catheter handling, and machine disinfection.
Perform peritoneal dialysis exchanges and related procedures during training sessions.
Manage emergencies efficiently within the unit, including emergency dialysis sessions.
Schedule dialysis appointments and maintain accurate records.
Maintain a log book for staff activities until they reach privileging level 5 for at least 3 months.

Machine & Equipment Maintenance

Ensure dialysis machines and equipment (e.g., cycler, defibrillator) are in good functional condition.
Follow up on warranty and periodic maintenance, including calibration (where applicable).
Disinfect machines and equipment as per protocol.
Assist biomedical engineers during repairs and maintenance.
Maintain equipment registers.

Interdepartmental Coordination

Work with the pharmacy and stores for maintaining adequate stock (including Erythropoietin and Iron) and replenishing crash cart items.
Ensure accurate billing for dialysis sessions and follow up on credit/insurance matters.
Maintain linen stock and ensure cleanliness.
Coordinate with medical teams for patient care and academic activities.

Staff Education

Learn and implement dialysis policies, protocols, and safety procedures.
Train new recruits and students, particularly on IV cannulation and dialysis practices.
Educate housekeeping staff on cleanliness, station disinfection, and waste segregation.
Conduct health education programs in the dialysis unit.

Safety Practices

Ensure proper disinfection and sterilization of equipment and tools in the dialysis room.
Manage biomedical waste segregation and follow hospital infection control protocols.
Handle hazardous materials and perform regular safety checks.
Report incidents related to patients, staff, or equipment to the HOD.
Ensure Hepatitis B vaccination for patients and staff, and follow up on immunization status.
Participate in hospital infection control activities and surveillance rounds.
