About the Role

Zelis I&E Business Unit is seeking a DevOps / Site Reliability Engineer to join our growing engineering team. We use an Agile methodology across small, high-performing teams and a modern stack including Ruby on Rails, Angular, TypeScript, Node, Postgres, Redis, and more. Our infrastructure is cloud-native, declared as code, and hosted on AWS.

This is a remote-friendly, high-impact role with career growth opportunities, mentorship, and continuous learning support.


Responsibilities

  • Gather and analyze metrics from OS and applications for performance tuning and fault analysis

  • Improve service reliability in collaboration with development teams

  • Participate in system design, platform management, and capacity planning

  • Automate systems and services to ensure scalability and reliability

  • Maintain balance between development speed and system reliability

  • Lead blameless postmortems to enhance resilience

  • Manage and optimize AWS infrastructure with configuration-as-code best practices

  • Troubleshoot incidents from internal/external stakeholders

  • Guide cross-functional teams on automation, performance, and security

  • Analyze load testing results and recommend infrastructure changes

  • Monitor and report system health metrics (SLIs/SLOs/SLAs)

  • Manage CI/CD pipelines and production releases

  • Document tribal knowledge for improved knowledge sharing

  • Support production deployments and troubleshooting

  • Develop and implement infrastructure automation solutions

  • Maintain monitoring for uptime, latency, and errors across the tech stack

  • Participate in on-call rotation for production support


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience: 2–4 years in software development or DevOps

  • Skills & Tools:

    • Linux system administration in a cloud environment (preferably AWS)

    • AWS services like EC2, CloudFormation, RDS, ElasticCache, S3

    • Web programming languages (Ruby on Rails is a strong plus)

    • Infrastructure-as-code tools like Puppet

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Passion for building and maintaining complex systems with high availability

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Openness to feedback and continuous improvement mindset
