About the Role

As part of our diverse technology team, you will architect, code, and ship software that makes American Express an essential part of customers’ digital lives. You’ll work in an open, supportive, and inclusive environment, making key technical decisions to solve complex challenges.

The U.S. Consumer Services and Enterprise Digital & Data Technology Team is responsible for customer-facing digital experiences, AI/ML, marketing technology, automation, and data governance. Your work will have a direct impact on digital engagement and customer experience.

You will be part of the Card Shop group, responsible for delivering a best-in-class shopping experience for American Express products. Your contributions will be highly visible and impactful.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development & Architecture

Lead end-to-end web application development in a cross-functional team.
Build scalable, performant, and fault-tolerant applications using JavaScript, NodeJS, ReactJS, and modern frameworks.
Develop and maintain APIs using NodeJS, Jest, Mocha, REST, GraphQL, and Express.
Ensure code optimization for accessibility, performance, and availability.
Contribute to automation, reliability frameworks, and testing strategies.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical guidance.
Collaborate with product owners to translate business needs into scalable solutions.
Investigate and resolve production issues with the support of the site reliability team.
Stay ahead of emerging JavaScript frameworks and drive innovation.

Agile & DevOps Practices

Work in an Agile development environment, following DevOps principles.
Automate processes to enhance development and deployment efficiency.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications

Technical Skills & Experience

7+ years of experience in Web Development.
Proficiency in JavaScript, React.js, Redux, and modern front-end frameworks.
Experience with NodeJS, REST, GraphQL, Jest, Mocha, and Express.
Strong understanding of modern JavaScript coding practices and open-source ecosystems.
Ability to translate business requirements into scalable, high-performance solutions.
Passion for accessibility, performance optimization, and customer experience.

Soft Skills & Leadership

Strong mentorship skills, guiding junior engineers to enhance developer experience.
Excellent collaboration and problem-solving skills in an Agile team.
Passion for innovation, automation, and improving engineering processes.
