Network Implementation Engineer

About the Job

As a Network Implementation Engineer, you will be responsible for executing deployment, maintenance, and operations of private data networks worldwide. You will collaborate with Technical Program Managers, Network Engineers, Infrastructure Engineers, Field Engineers, and external construction and telecommunications vendors.

Your primary objective will be to build the world’s most reliable, cost-effective, and scalable network to support Google’s global customers and users. You will play a crucial role in maintaining Google’s network infrastructure, ensuring seamless connectivity for millions of users worldwide.

The Network Team operates at the edge of Google’s network, managing data centers and metro points of presence globally. From site acquisition to network activation, the team is responsible for delivering space, power, and network assets efficiently and reliably.

Responsibilities

✔ Network Outage Response: Diagnose Layer 1 to Layer 3 network errors and initiate network repairs.
✔ Troubleshooting & Workflow Management: Develop workflows and systems to diagnose and resolve optical Layer 1 and Layer 3 network issues.
✔ 24/7 Global Shift Rotation: Participate in round-the-clock shift rotations to provide continuous network support.
✔ Remote Support: Assist field operations remotely with network repairs.
✔ Customer Communication: Interface with high-level customers, providing real-time repair status updates.

Minimum Qualifications

???? Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Network Engineering, Telecom Engineering, or a related technical field, OR equivalent practical experience.

???? Technical Skills & Experience:
   • Experience in network operations and systematic troubleshooting in IP and Optical environments.
   • Experience in carrier-scale telecommunications involving:
     ✔ Optical network infrastructure
     ✔ Transmission systems
     ✔ Layer 2/3 routers
     ✔ Data services
     ✔ DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing)
   • Experience working with field operation technicians, engineers, contractors, or vendors.
   • Proficiency in TCP/IP and network routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, MPLS).
   • Hands-on experience in optical network installation, maintenance, and operations.

Preferred Qualifications

???? Additional Technical Expertise:
   • Experience in Layer 1 optical transmission systems, Layer 3 routing (TCP/IP), wireless networking, network design, or operations.
   • Previous experience with optical network installation, maintenance, and NOC/TAC operations for a large service provider or enterprise networks.
   • Understanding of ISP network operations or enterprise IT network infrastructure support.
   • Ability to use, understand, and navigate EMS (Element Management Systems) and NMS (Network Management Systems) for optical networks.
   • Strong troubleshooting methodology and creative problem-solving skills.
