About the Role – Cloud Engineer

As a Cloud Engineer in the American Express Cloud Solutions Engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in driving cloud adoption across public and private cloud platforms. You will partner closely with application teams to deliver scalable, reusable, and cloud-native solutions that power business-critical and customer-facing applications.

Key Responsibilities

???? Contribute to best-in-class developer experience on cloud platforms and facilitate multi-cloud adoption.
???? Analyze and enhance existing application architectures for cloud readiness and optimization.
???? Define and document best practices and strategies for cloud migration and maintenance.
???? Collaborate with cross-functional teams (platform, security, network, database, operations) to align on cloud projects.
???? Work with technology vendors and cloud partners to implement secure, innovative cloud solutions.
???? Identify opportunities for new cloud technologies to enhance scalability, security, and performance.
???? Collaborate with product managers, platform engineers, and application engineers to implement large-scale cloud solutions.
???? Drive a culture of innovation and experimentation, encouraging risk-taking and problem-solving.
???? Serve as a productivity multiplier by improving team efficiency and fostering collaboration.

Required Qualifications

✅ Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
✅ 3-6 years of relevant experience in cloud engineering, software development, or related roles.
✅ Hands-on expertise in application design, software development, and automated testing.
✅ Experience working on at least one cloud platform – AWS, GCP, OpenShift, or Azure.
✅ Strong development experience in Java, JavaScript, Python, Go, or Node.js.
✅ Proficiency with modern databases such as Redis, Couchbase, Cassandra, and PostgreSQL.
✅ Hands-on experience with cloud-native application patterns, microservices, and distributed architectures.
✅ Understanding of infrastructure, virtualization, containers, networking, and monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk).
✅ Preferred hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions.
✅ Strong problem-solving skills with a desire to learn and innovate.
✅ Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with experience working in Agile teams.
